The closer you get to the village of Schwellbrunn in the Swiss canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, the clearer it becomes: Jasmin grew up in a place where Hollywood directors take inspiration for kitschy films. Here in the Swiss Alps, the mountains are high and the grass is green. And yet rumour has it that this small municipality has produced a top-class racing driver.
The roots of Jasmin’s career can be traced back to the Autohaus Preisig car dealership, located in the heart of this green paradise, alongside a country road. “The fact that I have petrol running through my veins is down to my father. I pretty much grew up in my parents’ car dealership,” says the friendly Swiss. Because circuit racing is largely forbidden in Switzerland, her father used to enter local hill climbs. However, he stopped racing when Jasim and her brother were born. “He then bought go-karts for my brother, who is two years my younger, and me. We soon started using them to race in club championships.” The siblings raced karts together between 2003 and 2012. In 2012, Jasmin finished eighth in the Super Rok class in the Karting World Championship.
