Point to point

Right in the thick of the title race: Matsumoto makes it exciting in TCR Japan

Second place in race one, fourth place in race two – and within touching distance of the championship leader: Takeshi Matsumoto (J) is making it exciting in TCR Japan “powered by Volkswagen” after eight of the season’s ten races. Matsumoto finished runner-up in the opening race at the fourth and penultimate weekend of the season in Okayama (Japan). In doing so, he moved to the top of the championship in the Golf GTI TCR run by Team Wakayama. Gentleman driver “Hirobon” (J) came home third to complete a good result for the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer. On Sunday, it was Shogo Mitsuyama (J) who came home third to celebrate the third podium finish for the Golf GTI TCR. Takeshi Matsumoto had to relinquish the championship lead after finishing fourth on Sunday. However, he remains extremely well-placed in the title race ahead of the season finale, which will take place on the same weekend as the WTCR in Suzuka (25 to 27 October). Matsumoto lies just one point off the lead with 25 points on offer for a race win.
