Huff, Huff, hooray!

Pole, victory and second place for Rob Huff

It was almost a perfect weekend for Rob Huff (GB) at the penultimate round of the Chinese Touring Car Championship (CTCC): the Brit first secured pole position with a minimal advantage over Pepe Oriola (E, Ford). Less than six hundredths of a second separated his Volkswagen New Lamando and the second-placed Ford. Despite this, Huff had to start the opening race of the weekend from 14th place, as Lady Luck deserted him in the draw for the grid positions. The experienced driver promptly made up eight places on the opening lap. Just three laps into the race, Huff was already battling with the leading duo of Jason Zhang (HK, Kia) and Andy Yan (HK, Ford). They were both forced out of the race after contact, leaving Huff free to adopt the lead. He was now being pursued by Oriola and, thanks largely to the 55 kilograms of ballast that Huff was required to carry in accordance with CTCC regulations, could not prevent the Spaniard from passing him on a straight on lap five. Despite this, Huff was pleased with his fightback from 14th to second place.
