Here’s what happened in the TCR International Series: the 2017 champion drove a Golf GTI TCR. The Frenchman Jean-Karl Vernay, driving for the Leopard Racing Team, prevailed in impressive style and triumphed with a 29-point lead over his most formidable adversary Attila Tassi (H). It was the first title for Vernay in the touring car racing series after finishing third the previous year. Volkswagen also succeeded in defending the title: Stefano Comini (CH) had already won it in 2016 for the Wolfsburg marque.
With supreme continuity and smart driving, Jean-Karl Vernay managed to secure the title and was able to count on his 350 hp Golf GTI TCR as a reliable partner. ‘JK’ only won one race on the Spa-Francorchamps (B) circuit in May, but nonetheless established himself as a hot contender for the title at an early stage after picking up points in a number of races.
