Norwegian Rally Championship
Second win for Ole Christian Veiby in the Polo GTI R5
Ole Christian Veiby (N) and co-driver Jonas Andersson (S) have won at Rally Sørland. At the fourth race in the Norwegian Rally Championship, the duo recorded the fastest times on four out of nine special stages and were first to reach the finish after around 125 kilometres, with a comfortable 24.7-second lead over last year’s winner Anders Grøndal and his co-driver Marius Fuglerud (N/N, Ford) For some time, it looked like a one-two result was on the cards for the Polo GTI R5, but Johan Kristoffersson and co-driver Stig Rune Skjærmoen (S/N) were forced to retire from their debut appearance on gravel due to technical problems on the final special stage.
“We drove really well on all nine special stages and had a perfect car. That was a very good day,” said Veiby after the triumph. After finishing third at Rally Sigdal and claiming victory at Rally Hadeland, the 22-year-old reached the podium for third time this season and now leads the overall standings. The Norwegian Rally Championship continues on 1st June with the Aurskog-Høland rally.
