Americas Rallycross (ARX)
Tanner Foust begins the new season with a fourth place
Tanner Foust narrowly missed out on the podium at the season opener of the Americas Rallycross (ARX) in Mid-Ohio (USA). In the Volkswagen Beetle, the 45-year-old finished fourth in a dramatic final. The weekend had started perfectly: with the fastest time in two of the four qualifying rounds, Foust secured first place after the heats. In the semi-finals, the 2012 Global Rallycross Champion got off to a poor start, but he managed to cross the finish line in second place. In the final, Foust had already buried hopes of victory in the second corner, when he damaged his Beetle in the fight with his five competitors at the front, losing decisive ground as a result.
In the overall rankings, Foust is only four points behind his former Volkswagen team-mate and reigning champion Scott Speed (USA, Subaru) after the season opener in second place. The ARX continues with rounds two and three on 13 and 14 July in Gateway (USA).
