Oliver Solberg wins RC2 class in the Polo GTI R5
Oliver Solberg (N) and co-driver Aaron Johnston (GB) took victory in the RC2 class. The duo finished an impressive seventh overall. 17-year-old Solberg, son of rally legend Petter Solberg, did a great job of managing his pace over the 151 kilometres of special stage, winning five stages in a class with a very strong field. The Norwegian eventually finished almost one and a half minutes ahead of runners-up Rainer Aus and Simo Koskinen (EST/EST, Škoda).
“Absolutely unbelievable. We really never expected that,” said a delighted Solberg after the podium ceremony. “We took the lead right at the start of the rally and then tried to manage our lead. Don’t take any risks, that was our approach – especially after a jump over a crest on stage ten, which was a little more violent than expected. We are very happy. A big thank you goes to Aaron and the whole team, who did a great job here.”
