Norwegian Rally Championship
Third victory of the season for Veiby in the Polo GTI R5
Ole Christian Veiby and Jonas Andersson (N/S) celebrated their third win of the season in the Norwegian Rally Championship and are leading in the overall standings ahead of the season finale. At the Rally Grimstad, the fifth of a total of six rounds, the Scandinavian duo celebrated an emphatic victory in their Volkswagen Polo GTI R5. After 73.41 classified kilometres, Veiby and Andersson were 49.8 seconds ahead of second-placed Anders Grøndal and Marius Fuglerud (N/N, Ford).
After winning the season’s only asphalt rally, Veiby was absolutely delighted: “We had a perfect day. The Polo GTI R5 ran very smoothly and the super-fast special stages with average speeds of over 130 km/h were really fun.” Veiby and Andersson set the fastest time on seven of the eight stages. Only on the sixth leg they were beaten by Grøndal and Fuglerud by just 0.3 seconds.
In the drivers’ championship, Veiby tops the table 17 points ahead of Grøndal heading into the finale at the Rally Hedemarken. On 21 September, the 23-year-old can secure the Norwegian Rally Championship for the first time in his career.
