One-two-three in Sweden

Polo GTI R5 is the measure in the WRC 2

The Volkswagen drivers enjoyed a perfect result at the Rally Sweden: Ole Christian Veiby and Jonas Andersson (N/S) took victory in the WRC 2 category with the Polo GTI R5 at round two of the World Rally Championship. The duo from Scandinavia took the lead in their class as early as the third special stage and never looked back. The Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 ran like clockwork on ice and snow all weekend. Veiby/Andersson finished an impressive ninth overall.

Flying Finns Emil Lindholm/Mikael Korhonen finished runner-up in their Polo. Johan Kristoffersson/Stig Rune Skjærmoen (N/S) also showed good pace. Two-time world Rallycross champion Kristoffersson guided his Polo GTI R5 to third place in the WRC 2 category, making it an all-Volkswagen podium. The Polo was the fastest WRC 2 car on ten special stages, with eight stage wins going to Veiby and two to Kristoffersson.

It was the second podium result in the 2019 FIA World Rally Championship for Veiby after finishing third at the season opening ‘Monte”. After two out of 14 events the 22-year-old Norwegian topps the overall drivers’ standings with 40 points in hand. Yoann Bonato (F, Citroën) follows in second with a deficit of 15 points. The WRC moves on the Central America now: the third event takes place in Mexico from 07 to 10 March.
